TUESWU&GEW: 4th International Summer Camp for Ukrainian Children

This summer, Ukrainian children took part in the IFM-SEI International Summer Camp, organized by Kinderfreunde Österreich for the first time in the picturesque town of Döbriach, Carinthia (Austria).

This trip became possible thanks to the invitation and funding from the German Education Union (GEW), a reliable partner of the Trade Union of Education and Science Workers of Ukraine. 

For the fourth year in a row, GEW has demonstrated genuine solidarity and a deep understanding of the needs of Ukrainian educators and their families during these difficult times of war. A number of important initiatives are currently being implemented jointly, ranging from educational projects and social initiatives to participation in joint international forums and events that open up new opportunities for the Ukrainian educational community.

Recently, a group of 15 children – members of the families of trade union educators – went on vacation to Falkencamp Döbriach to join a camp that brings together more than 1,200 participants from around the world.

The vacation shift lasts from July 23 to August 1, 2025, and is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Kinderfreunde camp. After all, its goal is not only recreation, but also development, cultural exchange, international communication, new knowledge, and impressions.

Ukrainian children have already held an educational quiz about Ukraine to introduce camp participants to our country, its traditions, and culture, while also getting to know each other better in a friendly atmosphere.

The recreation program is rich and colorful: kayaking and canoeing, evening concerts, discos, bike rides through the picturesque countryside of Döbriach, as well as hikes up Mount Mirnischnit, which reaches 1,650 meters above sea level and offers breathtaking views. On sunny days, children swim in the Lake Friendship, enjoying the real summer camp atmosphere.

Participation in such an international summer camp is an unforgettable experience, a meeting with new friends, new horizons, and another warm summer filled with peace and renewal, which are so necessary for Ukrainian children during wartime.
