Higher Education and VET during War in Figures

Data as of December 24, 2022 on damage (destruction) of property and premises of research and higher education institutions is as follows: not damaged  228, partly damaged  91, totally damaged  4, data missing  11 (located at temporary occupied areas).

206,387 persons were enrolled in professional pre-higher and higher education institutions for tertiary programs based on complete general secondary education (73,430 students on terms of budget funding, 132,921 students on a fee-for-service basis). A number of persons enrolled to professional junior bachelor programs – 26,707, junior bachelor programs – 802, bachelor programs – 166,364, master programs – 12,438. A total number enrolled in professional pre-higher and higher education institutions is 502,225. 

The process of transferring children of fallen defenders of Ukraine, participants in hostilities and persons with disabilities resulting from war, their children, as well as residents of particularly dangerous areas, who are enrolled in professional pre-higher and higher education institutions up to and including 2021, to studying on terms of budget funding is in progress. 

As of December 21, 2022, 21,048 students (including 18,887 full-time students and 2,161 part-time students) were authorized for transfer. 

According to the results of 2022 admission campaign, higher education institutions enrolled applicants in 10 interdisciplinary educational programs (8 master degree programs, 2 PhD programs) – 113 applicants were enrolled. 

As of November 28, 2022 29 higher education institutions and 55 professional pre-higher educational institutions accept students from among IDPs also providing them residence facilities. 

According to current information as of December 23, 2022, buildings of 16 VET institutions have been destroyed, 124 have been damaged. The vast majority of damaged VET premises are located in Donetsk – 29, Kharkiv – 18, Dnipro – 13, Luhansk – 12 and Mykolaiv – 11 regions.
