Secure Future in the Spotlight: All-Ukrainian Campaign «Youth for a Safe World»
The All-Ukrainian campaign «Youth for a Safe World» was held from 26 to 29 October 2024 in Kyiv at the Artek International Children's Centre. This event brought together students, activists of student trade unions, young leaders, teachers, educators, volunteers, rescuers, psychologists, medical workers and other specialists from all over Ukraine.
The main goal of the event was to form a civic identity among young people and raise their awareness and readiness to act in emergency situations. Given the challenging wartime conditions, such initiatives become extremely important for strengthening civil society and developing patriotic values among young people.
The campaign «Youth for a Safe World» was organized with the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sport of Ukraine, the Kyiv City State Administration and the All-Ukrainian Public Children's Movement «School of Safety» in partnership with the Trade Union of Education and Science of Ukraine and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
The organizers and partners of the event emphasized the importance of national security and civic responsibility, especially in the current conditions which Ukraine is faces.
During the event, more than 120 participants took part in workshops and trainings, discussions and intellectual battles, flash mobs and practical cases.
During four days, the participants learned the basics of civic responsibility and gained practical skills in responding to emergencies. They practiced crisis scenarios, which contributed to the development of key competencies necessary to act in difficult circumstances.
The program also included workshops on behavior in the face of military and terrorist threats, developing safe living skills, first aid, and emergency response.
Among the many activities, the trade union youth representatives participated in a workshop on leadership in a trade union organization, conducted by Olha Chabaniuk, Vice President of the Trade Union of Education and Science Workers of Ukraine. This activity is an important tool for strengthening the position of trade unions and increasing the professional capacity of leaders, as it is aimed at developing key management skills that allow young leaders to effectively represent and protect the interests of their members, promote the development of the organization and strengthen its role in civil society.
Olha Chabaniuk emphasized the importance of working together and supporting young people in the face of current challenges: «Today, it is more important than ever that we unite, communicate, exchange ideas and work together for a common goal. Each of us, in his or her place, contributes to the victory of the country, and our strength is in unity.»
Special attention was paid to social and state values that are of strategic importance for Ukraine today in the context of the war, as educating young people with an emphasis on unity, patriotism and civic responsibility helps to strengthen national unity.
The organizers also provided for strict security measures during the event.
