TUESWU’s talks with Ministry of Education

On November 1, after the protest actions organised by trade unions throughout Ukraine on October 9 and 17, President of the Trade Union of Education and Science Workers of Ukraine Georgiy Trukhanov had a meeting with Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Pavlo Khobzei in the building of the Ministry of Education.

The aim of the meeting was to discuss the trade union proposals to the education budget 2019 and to find the ways how to address challenges faced by sector.

The parties discussed the demands of the education workers, voiced at the protest rallies on October 9 and 17, this year. The focus was on the Budget 2019 and the allocation of necessary funds to education in order to ensure proper functioning of the sector.

As a result of negotiations the Education Trade Union and the Ministry sent a joint letter to heads of local educational authorities and institutions with recommendations to ensure wage increases for teaching staff of preschool, school, out-of-school, vocational and higher education and other educational institutions by establishing allowances for high achievements, for performing important work, work complexity and intensity of 10 or more percents of the salary from November 1, 2018.
