TUESWU&GEW: Third Year of Cooperation to Improve Children's Psychological Health

For the third year in a row, the Trade Union of Education and Science Workers of Ukraine, together with the German Education Union (GEW) and the youth organization Die Falken, have been providing children of educators with the opportunity to rest and study in Germany.

This summer, at the invitation of the GEW and Die Falken, 11 children of the TUESWU members had the opportunity to participate in an educational program at a tent camp on the island of Föhr in Germany. The Falken camps were financially supported by the GEW’s “Bildungs – und Förderungswerk” as well as the German Trade Union Councils ‘"Gewerkschaften helfen e.V.”

Nature recreation is not just an opportunity to temporarily escape from difficulties. Walking along the seashore, sleeping in the fresh air and playing active games help children to recuperate, improve their health and make them stronger.

Such initiatives are especially important for the children who live in a time of war. They not only contribute to children's health recovery, but also provide an opportunity to experience positive emotions, strengthen their psychological health and find new friends. These 14 days spent in the picturesque Schleswig-Holstein filled them with vital energy and gave them the opportunity to join creative and sport activities, flash mobs and craft workshops.

It is important that even in such extremely difficult times, children receive support and the opportunity to feel cared for and protected, which is essential for their harmonious development.

 Feedback from the camp participants

"Our students not only had an active vacation, but also got acquainted with the culture, rituals, food traditions and customs of the people of Germany. The Ukrainians were hospitably welcomed by the beautiful, authentic and picturesque island of Föhr in the North Sea. In general, the children had a happy, fun and useful time."

"I will remember Germany for its amazing nature and the hospitality of the German people. The camp staff always took care of our comfort and rest. I was also extremely impressed by one of the rarest natural phenomena - twice a day the Wadden Sea is drained at low tide and filled with water at high tide!

There were many interesting and fun adventures! I am 100% satisfied with the vacation! I would like to visit Germany again!"

I especially enjoyed the workshops and meaningful events. Every day brought something new – creative contests, sports games, interesting activities that inspired self-development. I also had a great opportunity to make new acquaintances and find friends. This experience will forever remain with me as one of the most vivid impressions of the summer!"
