New Education International's Leadership Team is Elected and Ready to Lead
The 10th World Congress of Education International, held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, brought together 1200 delegates from all the continents.
One of the major outcomes of the 10th World Congress is that Education International’s delegates elected a new Executive Board, bringing many new leaders from around the world.
The 10th World Congress of Education International was especially important for Ukraine, as it was held under the slogan “Development of Education Trade Unions, Popularization of the Teaching Profession, Protection of Democracy”. The issues of protecting democracy, the right to vote, and the right to choose are now quite acute on the agenda for Ukraine. Our country is currently defending them in a difficult struggle at all levels, both at the state and trade union levels.
The EI World Congress of Education International is held every 5 years and envisages the election of the governing body - the Executive Board of Education International for the next period. For the first time, a representative of the Ukrainian Trade Union was elected to its Executive Board.
The Trade Union of Education and Science Workers of Ukraine was represented at the elections by the Vice President Trade Union Olha Chabaniuk.
David Edwards was re-elected as Secretary General of the EI for a new term.
Mugwena Maluleke, of SADTU (South Africa), was elected President of Education International. He replaced Susan Hopgood, who resigned after many years of dedication to the education community.
