The Trade Union of Education and Science Workers of Ukraine and the Education Ombudsman have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation aimed at protecting the rights of teachers and students, improving their working and learning conditions, and developing social dialogue. The document was signed by Georgiy Trukhanov, President of the Trade Union, and Nadiya Leshchyk, Education Ombudsman.

Childhood should be bright, full of joy, warmth and safety. Pre-school education institutions that have suffered the consequences of the war need support to continue to stay a space of development, comfort and happy moments for children.

On March 14, 2025, a press conference was held in Kyiv to launch the project of the first trade union partnership between the Trade Union of Education and Science Workers of Ukraine (TUESWU) and the German Education Union (GEW).  

Danish Union of Early Childhood and Youth Educators (BUPL) has provided financial assistance to the Trade Union of Education and Science Workers of Ukraine (TUESWU) to support two preschools in Kyiv that were damaged by Russian missile attacks.

According to the National Bank of Ukraine, real wages in the education sector have decreased by 14.8% over the past three years.

Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, 585 children have been killed and 2,249 injured. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.

Between 2020 and 2024, 2,114 Ukrainian schools were closed: the state lost the fifth part of rural education institutions, and the number of schools in cities decreased by 5%.

The All-Ukrainian campaign «Youth for a Safe World» was held from 26 to 29 October 2024 in Kyiv at the Artek International Children's Centre. This event brought together students, activists of student trade unions, young leaders, teachers, educators, volunteers, rescuers, psychologists, medical workers and other specialists from all over Ukraine.

For the third year in a row, the Trade Union of Education and Science Workers of Ukraine, together with the German Education Union (GEW) and the youth organization Die Falken, have been providing children of educators with the opportunity to rest and study in Germany.

The 10th World Congress of Education International considered and adopted a resolution «Solidarity with Ukraine», which emphasizes the need to continue supporting Ukraine and its educators. Education International will continue to contribute to international pressure on Russia to cease fire, cease shelling of educational, medical, critical and civilian infrastructure, including educational institutions, and withdraw military forces and equipment from all internationally recognized territory of Ukraine.
