ITUC condemns new attempt to obstruct trade union activities
The International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) strongly condemned the attempt to undermine the work of the Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine and its member organizations by unjustifiably seizing the Trade Union House in Kyiv.
As reported, on June 5, government officials, accompanied by private security guards, entered the building without warning, ordered FPU employees to leave the premises, and blocked access to it. These actions significantly disrupted the organization's ongoing activities.
The ITUC considers this incident to be a continuation of a series of attacks on the trade union movement in Ukraine, including the earlier arrest of FPU President Grigoriy Osovyy. The confederation emphasizes that the pressure on the FPU is part of a broader trend of interference in legitimate trade union activities.
ITUC General Secretary Luke Triangle said: «This is a clear and unacceptable attempt to block the legitimate activities of the FPU. The Ukrainian authorities must immediately stop the attacks, respect the rights of trade unions and restore the conditions for their activities in accordance with their national and international obligations.»
The ITUC calls for an immediate end to pressure on trade unions in Ukraine and for their freedom to operate to be guaranteed.
